Alien Secrets

In Ink Lust, Jayne’s delicious contribution to the Pricked series, the heroine Leni has a naughty secret. Yeah, I know. Did your eyes just widen? Mine did. I LOVE secrets, especially naughty secrets! 

Everyone has secrets. Everyone. I’m a very open person and I can’t lie worth beans but even I have secrets. Some secrets are deep and dark and serious. Some are light and fluffy, almost silly. Some secrets we keep from ourselves. Some secrets we won’t ever, ever tell anyone else. 

Secrets are why writers often ask “How well can we know someone else?” It is impossible to know everything about someone else, and I think that’s okay. I’ve been with my wonderful hubby for 19 fabulous years, and I’m still learning his secrets. This slow reveal keeps our relationship fresh and exciting and a bit unpredictable.

In Tattooed Tryst, Trake, my hero has the mother of all secrets. He’s not human. He’s a hunky alien sent to Earth to monitor other alien life. 

Trake isn’t worried about keeping his secret. One of the reasons, Orogones, Trake’s species, are chosen as Earth’s peacekeepers is because humans don’t remember them. When an Orogone leaves the room, all memory of them having been there leaves also. It is as though they cease to exist.

Trake, having lived on Earth for thirty-two lonely years, is accustomed to being forgotten. When he meets Lori, a bubbly waitress in a small town diner, he freely shares all of his secrets, the good, the bad, and the embarrassing. Why wouldn’t he? She’s the type of woman you can tell everything to, and she won’t remember anything he says.

Except she does.

When they meet again during Trake’s grocery store stakeout, Lori remembers everything. Every. Single. Embarrassing. Detail. She remembers Trake, she remembers Trake’s secrets, and she remembers how he’d kissed her senseless in full view of everyone. Yeah, Trake is in big, big trouble.

Lori, of course, has her own secrets. There’s a reason that although she always talks about traveling, she has never left her small town. Lori’s secrets won’t endanger the entire world as Trake’s secrets will, but they do put her personal world at risk. They put her at risk. She is much more cautious about revealing her secrets to her big strong alien lover. It is an act of trust when she does.
